Position Summary

The Assistant Assessment and Referral Director is the primary assessor for evening shift and is responsible for assisting the Director in overseeing the functioning of the Assessment and Referral Psychiatric Assessment Team, and Admissions function, in accordance with current standards of mental health practice.   Collects data from Inquiry Calls, assessments, etc. and inputs into Health Management system in a timely manner, and assists in coordination of admissions with Director of Assessment and Referral.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the response to requests for services by phone and in person, including the initial response, the assessment and referral process, the designation of appropriate level of care, initiation/admission into services, and appropriate follow up activity.
  • Completes a patient interview according to policy.
  • Document patient information.
  • Review the effectiveness of the initial interface with external reviewers.
  • Maintain an active involvement and awareness of all patient admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Share on call responsibilities with the Director of Admissions.
  • Provide initial evaluation and initiate the assessment, documenting patient symptomology/functioning/needs.
  • Staff each assessment with appropriate physician, documenting recommendations and Axis I-V diagnoses, when appropriate..
  • In the absence of the Director, facilitate daily Access meeting, as needed; provide information on previous day’s intake calls, current day’s scheduled evaluations for all staff members and delegate these responsibilities as appropriate.
  • May be required to perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Admissions

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Masters Degree in Social Work, mental health/behavioral sciences, or related field

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in direct clinical practice in a psychiatric/mental health/chemical dependency setting and at least one year of management experience.

Additional Requirements: Experience in patient assessment, referral, treatment planning and communication with external review organization or comparable entities.  Completion of CPR course and completion of CPI, including appropriate and safe use of seclusion and restraint, within 90 days of employment.  Thorough knowledge of the Joint Commission, OSHA, state and federal regulatory requirements.  Basic computer skills.
