Duties

The Audio and Video Forensic Analyst is responsible for collecting digital media for evidentiary purposes. This position requires working digital images and/or copies from a variety of information storage media sources such as digital video recorders, flash cards, etc.; examining the contents of a storage medium in such a way as to preserve the integrity of the evidence; and digitally enhancing images and/or video of evidentiary value to clarify details such as personal identification, clothing, footwear, suspect's handedness, vehicles and other background information to provide investigating detectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs forensic examination of audio/video evidence, to include extracting images and/or video of evidentiary value, and preparing images and video, including copies if required.
  • Performs redaction on body-worn camera video.
  • Identifies time indicators on videos, reconciling any discrepancies in the report.
  • Prepares a detailed report to include observations, analysis and results of examination.
  • Testifies as required in local, county, state and federal courts as a witness and/or an expert.
  • Marks and stores audio/video evidence in accordance with established evidence handling requirements and maintains copies in accordance with retention standards.
  • Establishes test criteria and data to ensure all program modules and outputs for assigned projects are tested for completeness and accuracy.
  • Initiates and maintains liaison with professional organizations for information exchange and to remain current in the latest forensics techniques and equipment.
  • Operates a computer, motor vehicle, facsimile machine, copier, camera, police radio, tape recorder/microcassette, fingerprinting equipment, cellular telephone, pager, video camera, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
  • Assist detectives as needed.
  • May be tasked with assisting other law enforcement agencies to perform forensic examination of audio/video evidence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires an Associate's degree or equivalent college credits in video technology and two years of audio/video forensics experience in law enforcement/investigations.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Must achieve the Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association (LEVA) certification within three years from beginning the LEVA basic class for Level I certification and within six years for the Level II certification, as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Digital Evidence software: EnCase, Axon Five Pro, Video Focus Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and Cellebrite.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and describe the technical processes to those with non-technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in an independent capacity; and make informed decisions to further the investigation process.
  • Strong attention to detail when conducting and documenting a forensic examination.
  • Problem solving skills.
