Duties Description The incumbent will administer all phases of the Hunter Education Program (HEP) on a regional level. They will provide material and logistical support, training, and supervision for the volunteer instructor force. Also, track, distribute, and arrange repair for the HEP's extensive inventory of training aids. The incumbent will lead instructor training courses, refresher sessions, recruitment, and other HEP related meetings. Directly supervise the activities of all volunteer instructors, and communicate instructor needs, problems and suggestions to the program administrator. Provide assistance with public outreach efforts within the region. Candidates should have experience with hunting and trapping. Must be able to deal effectively with the public and have good verbal skills, both in person and in a public-speaking forum. Incumbent will also oversee regional furbearer and small game mammal populations through species-specific research and monitoring programs; convey research findings through reports, presentations and technical advice; and represent the region on the statewide management team. Incumbent will collect, analyze and present harvest data; design and implement research and management projects; and review and develop regulations concerning the management of furbearers and small game mammals in NYS.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
