Job Description

You will play an essential role in coordinating and evaluating trauma education for nursing staff, with a focus on those new to trauma care. You will collaborate closely with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager, supporting the trauma program's growth and ensuring it aligns with hospital accreditation standards and regulatory requirements. Your contributions will help enhance the effectiveness of trauma care and patient outcomes, in addition to supporting the hospital's strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Professional Practice

Collaborate with nursing leadership and education teams to monitor and improve the quality of care at the unit level.
Provide expert consultation to clinical nurses, helping them optimize care and achieve desired patient outcomes.
Assist in developing and refining hospital and nursing policies, procedures, guidelines, and order sets, focusing on trauma care.
Address ethical issues in nursing practice by guiding staff and engaging with the Ethics Consultation Service when necessary.
Work to meet the nursing care needs of patients and their families, integrating knowledge of trauma care and the disease process.
Organize meetings to review orientation processes with new staff, providing timely feedback and addressing areas for improvement.
Support the development of individual learning management plans for nursing staff, ensuring ongoing education and professional growth.

Education

Conduct an annual educational needs assessment for the trauma department and related units.
Develop and coordinate educational programs tailored to the identified needs of nursing staff.
Oversee the in-service education for new products, policies, and procedures, ensuring accessibility across all shifts.
Coordinate and support the presentation of mandatory education programs, ensuring staff completion and engagement.
Maintain a flexible approach to emerging educational needs and provide responsive programming.
Offer ongoing continuing education to nursing staff, contributing to their professional development.

Trauma Program Responsibility

Collaborate with trauma program leaders, physicians, department managers, and administration to achieve hospital goals.
Stay up-to-date on the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Center Criteria to support program compliance.
Work closely with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager to meet clinical and administrative criteria for ACS Level II Trauma Center verification.
Assist in preparing for and participating in ACS site visits.
Support the operational processes of the trauma program, including documentation and follow-up activities.
Contribute to the development and advancement of trauma care and programs within the hospital.

Technology

Demonstrate proficiency in using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and other clinical applications.
Utilize web-based incident reporting systems when applicable.
Assist with payroll software and other necessary tools.
Provide training and guidance on the use of biomedical equipment relevant to trauma care.

Professional Development

Attend at least one program annually that aligns with personal and professional development goals.
Mentor staff in advancing their careers, including participation in the Clinical Ladder, obtaining specialty certifications, and exploring further educational opportunities.
Maintain clinical competence in trauma nursing and pursue ongoing certification as required.
Demonstrate leadership in nursing by participating in relevant professional organizations.

Collaboration

Regularly meet with service area representatives to assess and plan staff educational opportunities.
Participate in committees and collaborative efforts as requested.
Foster a positive working relationship with all clinical disciplines.
Ensure clear communication with the clinical team regarding changes to the plan of care.
Conduct regular rounds on assigned units, ensuring accessibility and support for staff across all shifts.
Collaborate with leadership and clinical partners to set meaningful goals for both the unit and individual staff members.

Performance Improvement

Coordinate and participate in system-wide performance improvement initiatives.
Lead performance improvement projects that positively impact nursing practice and patient care.
Work with the Nurse Leader and staff to monitor and improve patient satisfaction scores in the area of service.

Minimum Education & Experience:

MSN preferred, or enrollment in an accredited program as approved by the Nursing Director.
3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with strong expertise in trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing.
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification required.
TNCC Instructor/Director certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
Familiarity with TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation) course preferred.
Proficiency in database management and Excel required.
Experience in developing and evaluating educational programs is preferred.
Teaching experience or instructor certification is a plus.
