Job Description
The Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) is an independent, constitutionally established entity responsible for investigating allegations of judicial misconduct involving Florida state judges under Article V of the Florida Constitution. The JQC seeks an experienced and substantially qualified attorney to serve as General Counsel. This is a senior-level, highly responsible position within state government, based in Tallahassee. The General Counsel serves as the Commission’s lead trial counsel and is primarily responsible for investigating and prosecuting alleged judicial misconduct.
Examples of duties and work performed:
This position demands a high level of independent legal judgment and discretion, especially in the areas of complaint investigation, litigation strategy, and legal analysis. The General Counsel reports directly to the Executive Director and serves at the discretion of the Commission.
Education and Training Guidelines
Applicants must be members in good standing with The Florida Bar and possess a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible legal experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with litigation and trial practice experience.
Applicants should clearly specify the number of trials they have conducted and indicate whether any involved the prosecution of criminal, administrative, or professional regulatory matters.
This position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
