Introduction to the Organization:
Decriminalize Nature is a grassroots movement and educational campaign at the forefront of informing individuals about the value of entheogenic plants, fungi, and natural sources (such as mushrooms, cacti, iboga, and ayahuasca). Our goal is to pass local legal resolutions for decriminalization throughout the United States that allow individuals to grow, gather, and gift naturally occurring psychedelics without fear of criminal repercussions.
Our Chicago chapter has made significant progress, and we are now looking to add an Event Management Intern to the team to help coordinate events, engage in advocacy, and support public relations efforts to advance our mission.
Position Overview:
As an Event Management Intern with Decriminalize Nature Chicago, you will gain hands-on experience in organizing and executing events, advocacy initiatives, and grassroots lobbying efforts. You will work closely with our national principals to support strategic advocacy initiatives, coordinate community engagement efforts, and enhance public outreach. This position will report directly to the Decriminalize Nature Chicago Operations Coordinator and can ultimately gain experience in national initiatives as well.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning & Coordination: Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of community events, educational sessions, and advocacy gatherings.
Vendor & Booth Management: Coordinate and manage vendor booths at events, ensuring proper setup, engagement, and follow-up with attendees.
Fundraising Initiatives: Support fundraising campaigns by identifying potential donors, organizing crowdfunding efforts, and managing donor relations.
Policy & Advocacy: Assist in grassroots lobbying, drafting policy briefs, and engaging with local policymakers to advance decriminalization initiatives.
Public Relations: Develop press materials, outreach strategies, and media engagement plans to raise awareness about Decriminalize Nature's mission.
Community Engagement: Foster relationships with community leaders, partner organizations, and advocacy groups to strengthen outreach efforts.
Social Media & Promotional Support: Collaborate on event promotion via social media, newsletters, and digital marketing efforts.
Volunteer Coordination: Assist in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers for events and advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:
Education: (Preferred but not required) Past experience, or currently pursuing any certification/degree in event management, public relations, political science, nonprofit administration, communications, or a related field.
Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and familiarity with event planning tools and social media platforms.
Experience: (Preferred but not required) Previous internship or work experience in event management, advocacy, or fundraising is preferred but not required.
