The Criminal Investigations Division encompasses all law enforcement and forensic components residing within the Department of Financial Services. With this broad responsibility, the division investigates a wide range of fraudulent and criminal acts including:

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • ACTIVE Florida Law Enforcement Compliance/Certification of Equivalency of Training from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
  • VALID Driver’s License from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Applicants must be a graduate of the FBI Hazardous Device School (HDS) and hold a current certification or be eligible for recertification in accordance with FBI HDS standards.

 

Preference:

  • A degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Law Enforcement Investigator II requirement:

  • Three (3) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience .
    • College education can be substituted at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one (1) year required experience.

 

NOTE:   Correctional Officer and Correction Probational Officer Certifications   DO NOT   meet the requirements of the job description.

 

Special consideration may be given to eligible candidates who have bilingual verbal & written skills that meet a critical need of the agency’s mission.

 

The Division requires you to live no more than 50 miles from your residence to your assigned duty station (office). The mileage will be determined by geodesic distance (direct line) from their address of resident to the address of their assigned office.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?

Successful applicants  MUST pass not only the Interview but the Physical Abilities Test, Oral and Written Exam, background, drug test, fingerprinting, financial credit report, medical and psychological exam as a condition of employment prior to beginning.

Ability to: use the Bureau’s Augmented Crime Information Support System (ACISS); interpret burn patterns and analyze other information to determine the cause and origin of a fire. Skills: Properly document the fire scene using sketching, diagramming, and photography.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :

If applicable, (Incumbent of position is a member of DFS’ Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.)

 

The duties of this position require a constituted law enforcement officer subject to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The incumbent is required to bear firearms. The incumbent is required to maintain certification as a Law Enforcement Officer pursuant to Chapter 943, Florida Statutes.

 

EOD Duties

  • Conducts explosives investigations and render safe procedures in support of other Division members, local, state, and federal partners. Training, maintenance, and care of assigned EOD and related equipment as established by Division, Florida State Statutes, and applicable certifying entities.
  • Provide for the safe resolution of both criminal and non-criminal incidents involving incendiary devices and/or explosives
  • Performs render safe operations and/or remove suspected improvised explosive devices, explosives, explosive chemicals, pyrotechnics, and ammunition. Provide for proper and safe transportation, disposal and/or storage of explosives and other hazardous items.
  • Conduct post blast scene investigations; collect and preserve evidence; follow-up investigations; provide technical support to special operations.
  • Performs applicable training and education requirements as required by certifying entities and established Division requirements
  • Prepare and submit accurate reports and documentation as required.
  • Maintains all assigned equipment.

 

Conducts extensive fire/explosive scene investigations as assigned to determine or assist in the determination of the origin and cause of the fire/explosion. Prepare and submit accurate reports and documentation as required.

 

Provide educational programs addressing industry partners and citizen groups. When requested, the incumbent assists other agencies in law enforcement activities resulting from natural disasters and civil disturbances. Establish and maintain liaison with public safety partners and the general public thru public education and training.

 

Performs disaster related and other assigned duties as required.
