$77,212 then $90,080 after one year.
Current top salary per contract ending in 2024 of $115,696.

Department Overview
The Streamwood Police Department is a progressive police department whose members pride themselves on being part of one of the preeminent law enforcement agencies in the Chicago metropolitan area. The department handles approximately 16,000 calls for service each year and is a full-service law enforcement agency. The department has ample opportunities for career progression through professional opportunities including: General Case Detective, Tactical Detective, Drug Recognition Expert, School Resource Officer, K-9 Officer, Comfort Dog Handler, Narcotics Task Force, N.I.P.A.S Emergency Services, Mobile Field Force, and Bicycle Response Team, Major Case Assistance Team Investigations and Surveillance members, DARE Officer Program, Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Honor Guard, Juvenile Officer, Evidence Technician, Drone Pilot and much more. The Police Department was recently remodeled and includes a state-of-the-art virtual training simulator, firing range, state of the art gym, and state of the art locker rooms. Modern police equipment and vehicles. Approved training is encouraged, supported, and paid for by the department. Job Requirements
Age: Applicants: At least 21 years old at time of hire but not yet reached age 35 as of the application deadline and must not have reached age 36 by date of hire.
US Citizen: Proof of United States Citizenship (U.S. Birth Certificate, U.S. Passport, or Naturalization Papers) or proof that you are legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process. If applicant is not a citizen of the United States, then applicant shall submit proof that the applicant is authorized under federal law to obtain, carry, or purchase or otherwise possess a firearm.

Academy Certification: None required.
Prior Experience: Preference points available (up to a maximum of 5 - 1 point per year of continuous successful service within the state of Illinois employed as a full-time police officer employed by any county, state, or local law enforcement entity and separated in good standing and that separation of employment was no longer than 36 months.
Necessary Certifications: Valid Illinois Drivers License
Additional Requirements: Must have passed and possess a Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) proficiency card from the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) or other Village approved physical agility testing agency or application, issued within the past 12 months prior to the time the Final Eligibility List is prepared by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Hiring Process: The Streamwood Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will be preparing a 2-year eligibility list for the position of Police Officer, which will be used for the hiring of all Police Officers for that 2-year period. Police Officer candidates are offered employment based on their position on the Final Eligibility List. We currently maintain near full staffing however we anticipate additional openings in the near future. Police Officer candidates must successfully complete an extensive police background check, a reference check, a polygraph examination, a psychological examination, a physical examination which includes a drug screen, and present a current (issued within the past 12 months) Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) proficiency card or equivalent, issued within the past 12 months at time of employment before the final offer of employment is extended.
Military Preference Points
5 points for a veteran of the military service of the United States for total period
of at least one year and who was honorably discharged, or who is now on inactive
or reserve duty in such military service for at least one year. Must provide
evidence of qualifying military service (DD 214 Copy #4; DD 214 Copy #1 and proof of honorable service from the Department of Defense such as a DD 256
A/N/AF; or other official Department of Defense documentation) with the original
application for employment.

This is responsible law enforcement work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances.

Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. An employee of this class may be assigned to uniformed patrol, traffic control, crime prevention, investigative work, juvenile work, or other specialized departmental activity. Work involves an element of personal danger in the pursuit of duties. Officers must exercise independent judgement in meeting both routine and complex emergency situations and act without direct supervision. A significant portion of time involves public contact where discretion and tact is to be conscientiously exercised. Assignments and instructions are received in general terms from a superior officer who reviews work in methods and results through reports, observations, and discussions
