Job Description

The Supervising Program Technician II (SPT II) is the first line supervisor in the Imaging and Record Services Section (IRSS). In a team environment, the SPT II must organize, plan, schedule, and coordinate multiple workflow processes in the section. This includes monitoring, directing and overseeing assignments, editing work produced by unit staff to ensure final products meet content requirements, and establishing time frames for completion. The SPT II consults with other supervisors, managers, and analytical staff in the planning, development, and implementation of procedures. The SPT II also makes recommendations to management regarding unit personnel issues and possible solutions.


The supervisor must analyze workload data and have an understanding of all work functions within the IRSS and a general knowledge of the Bureau of Criminal Information and Analysis functions.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

This position is located in the California Justice Information Services Division, Bureau of Criminal Information & Analysis, Records & Biometric Identification Branch, Imaging & Live Scan Program, Imaging & Record Services Section.

  • Experience in organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating multiple workflow processes. This includes monitoring, directing and overseeing assignments, planning, development, and implementation of procedures
  • Experience compiling weekly and monthly individual staff performance reports
  • Experience in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting new hires
  • Experience in training employees and evaluate performance
  • Knowledgeable in progressive discipline and in preparing disciplinary reports and memorandums
  • Experience in updating and writing procedures
  • Experience in gathering data and compiling statistics for the preparation of management reports.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets information on documents for accuracy
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, and utilize a step stool to retrieve or file folders to or from mobile shelving units. Must be able to lift 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
