**Job Posting End Date** 05-07-2025 Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end date **Job Summary** Responsible for the performance of routine chemical analyses and testing. Perform more complex activities with instruction and monitoring by more senior personnel such as, trending, troubleshooting, problem solving, and data collection. Follow established procedures requiring the application of fundamental scientific knowledge and skills in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Monitor boiler water quality by use of standardized tests, operate and monitor plant sewage treatment plant (plant specific), operate and monitor plant water treatment facility, operate and monitor cooling tower chemistry (plant specific), monitor drinking water (plant specific), monitor scrubber chemistry (plant specific). Conduct sampling and perform tasks associated with federal and state laws associated with water and wastewater. Understand and follow site specific permits and obtain state licensing as required. Participate in continuous improvement activities. **Job Description** **RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL RESIDE WITHIN ONE HOUR OF FLINT CREEK POWERPLANT.** **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:** + Responsible for the coordination of all activities pertaining to the Laboratory, and for the maintenance and proper use of equipment. Initiate requisitions for supplies, equipment, and work necessary for the proper operation of the responsible areas. + Follow Unit specific guidelines without direction other than document itself or minimal supervision. + Installation, operation, calibration, and maintenance of test equipment. + Perform special analyses and investigations and prepare written reports as required to support changing lab operating conditions. + Collect, document and evaluate data necessary to comply with federal, state and local environmental regulations. + Utilize AEP environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. + Collect, prepare, analyze and ship samples. + Perform internal inspections of the area specific equipment as needed. May include but not limited to boiler, D.C. heater, condenser, cooling tower, media filters, and demineralizer vessels. + Maintain calibration of on-line instrumentation for boiler water quality monitoring and maintain records of lab instrument calibration for environmental audits. + Operate and monitor plant sewage facility. + Operate and monitor water treatment facilities both manually and by PLC. + Perform chemical drawdowns, track chemical inventory, chemical transfers, chemical unloading and set feed rate adjustments. + Write and document procedures, JHA, and conduct a JSA for daily work activities. + Provide training and sharing knowledge with team members. Direct the work of employees with lower classifications. + Possess strong knowledge of facility specific processes and systems. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:** **Education requirements are listed below:** High school diploma or GED. Bachelor degree in science or related field or equivalent education and/or experience. **Work Experience requirement listed below:** Minimum of four years' related experience including three years as a Chemist I or equivalent experience in a chemical laboratory performing analysis of coal, air, water and other materials. Advanced computer skills **Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:** Possess a valid state drivers license. **OTHER REQUIREMENTS:** + Physical demand level is Not Yet Determined Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays. + Minimum long distance travel required but the inspection of remote equipment is a daily requirement for this position. + Must respond to callouts in both outage and non-outage work to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules. + Must be able to learn and comply with all applicable plant operating instructions and procedures. + Must be able to learn and comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices. + Must learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines. + Must be able to learn and properly use the tools and equipment and their use as required in the work. + Must be able to read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications. + To communicate effectively, both verbally and written, are required for this position. + Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others. + Must be willing and able to work inside designated confined space entry areas, elevated areas and in hot and cold temperatures. + Must be able to wear respirator when required. + Train for fire fighting, first aid, AED and other emergency response programs as required. + Demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities for the position. + The essential and/or marginal job functions and the associated abilities/requirements/conditions outlined above describe the general nature and level of the work performed.
